Israel’s response is the usual meaningless “oops, sorry” followed by the rationalization that tragedies such as this are “inevitable” because Hezbollah are operating within civilian populations, using said civilians as “human shields”.

Let’s remember where this kind of rationalization for death and destruction leaves us, especially considering that every Jewish Israeli over the age of 18 must serve in the military, effectively rendering every single person in Israel a “human shield” for the Israeli war machine.

Accordingly, will the deaths of bystanding grandmothers and children in Israel also be considered simply “inevitable” when Hezbollah’s equally stupid and brutal rockets reach populated areas?

Geez, why didn’t Hezbollah think of that: just phone old Ehud and apologize for firing rockets into Haifa?! Why didn’t Al Qaeda think of that?! “Hey, sorry about those towers America!” Why didn’t Jeffrey Dahmer think of that??? Why didn’t everybody who ever murdered somebody think of that????

It’s funny, just the other day I sent a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office to ask him why he would go on international television and congratulate Israel on their “measured self-defense” vis a vis the bombing of Lebanon, and received no reply (the same with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs…i guess they’re too busy creating pretexts for killing more Arabs and grabbing more land to send me an email?).

I wonder what that hapless slave-to-the-Israeli-extremist-lobby douche-bag Harper is thinking now? Probably trying to look on the bright side and assume those 8 recently-alive Canadians voted Liberal? He should ask the douche-bags who organize Warped Tour if he can host an Extreme Douchebag contest on the Canadian dates. The winner gets a booth next to the Nerfâ„¢ pavillion.

Won’t somebody with a firearms permit please rid us of this sexless, bad-breathed, chronically masturbating, geopolitical lap-dog already? (oh, hahaha…another remark clearly made for entertainment purposes only about assassinating politicians! how droll!)

I just can’t imagine what Israel hopes to accomplish on the world stage with this brutal display of collective punishment currently underway in Gaza and now in Lebanon. Yeah, senseless violence is often a two-way street, but Israel once again opts to drive a massive bulldozer straight down the boulevard and inch closer and closer to permanently securing its place in the history of asshole settler states like Canada and the U.S.

Can that really be what the people of Israel — a country full of people with ancestors who survived the brutal and senseless Nazi holocaust — want? To be remembered as oppressors? As tyrants? I just can’t believe it’s coming true.

Meateaters and their apologists may now feel free to eat MY meat.

Patrick Elie, a Haiti-based political rights activist and former Minister of the first government of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide (1991-96), will be in Winnipeg from March 27th to 28th, 2006, as part of a Canada-wide speaking tour. His main speaking event in Winnipeg will be at the University of Winnipeg, room 1L12, at 7 pm on March 27th 2006.

In an interview upon arriving in Canada, Elie described the purpose of his speaking tour:

“Haiti’s history and its social and political realities are systematically misrepresented in much of the mainstream press and by the majority of politicians and so-called experts,” he said. “The objective of this speaking tour is to deploy a people-to-people diplomacy and to cut through the web of lies and half-truths. If Canadians are correctly informed about Haiti, it will be more difficult for the government of Canada to engage in policies that constitute a violation of Haiti’s hard won sovereignty and of the will of the Haitian people.”

Since February 2004, the social and human rights situation in Haiti has been disastrous. A series of high-profile reports and commentaries, including from the United Nations own spokespeople for human rights, indicate that conditions in Haiti are “catastrophic” (UN official) and getting worse. Canada is a major player in the coup and its aftermath.

The Winnipeg portion of Patrick Elie’s tour is being organized by Winnipeg-CHAN (Canada Haiti Action Network) a local activist group which formed to give attention to Canada’s intervention in Haiti. In addition to the main event, student groups are endorsing a Monday afternoon event at the Fireside Lounge at the University of Manitoba Student Union building at 2 pm and Tuesday afternoon at the University of Winnipeg, room 1L12 at 4pm.
