a FLEURY of activity in Winnipeg!

Oops, i mean flurry. Sorry Wings fans!

So last night, former Chilliwack Chiefs (B.C. Junior A League) left-winger Yves Engler spoke at Mondragon here in Winnipeg about his new book entitled “The Black Book of Canadian Foreign Policy”. I highly encourage all Canadians — especially those still clinging to the myth that Canada is a shining example of a force for good in the world — to track this book down and give it your undivided attention. Our homey Jordy-Boy helped organize the whole event (along with other members of CHAN) and did a fuckin great job.

Although we’ll be out of town for them, there are a few other really great events coming up at Mondragon in the next little bit that people should take note of. Two that really stick out in my mind are “Building a Highway of Hope: Documentary Screening and Discussion” with Jessica Yee on Wednesday June 17th at 7pm at 91 Albert Street and “Turning the Economic Crisis to Good Use: Robin Hahnel” on Saturday, June 20th at 7:30pm also at 91 Albert Street.

Also happening in Winnipeg next week is the 2nd (i think?) annual Winnipeg Anarchist Book Fair & DIY festival. So grab your patches and dirty up those pants as if you don’t have access to running water (calm down, just joking) and get down there for some different ideas about how people can organize their lives and their workplaces!

Erin Empey, guitar hero of Canada’s best living punk band, The Rebel Spell, moonlights as a journalist. Here, in the soon-to-be prestigious Dominion magazine, she asks Chris such penetrating questions as “when are you playing Vancouver?”. Wait, there’s more (although i just noticed that my comments about Afghanistan, The Vancouver Olympics and the Stephen Lewis Foundation got left on the cutting room floor. is there no justice?! will i never be heard?!?). Watch for a potential Propagandhi/ Rebel Spell onslaught in Western Canada this fall.

We’ve finished another leg of touring for 2009. It was a good time. Thanks to everyone who came to the shows. We’re resting up our aching heads and necks and turning our eyes to the east. In a little over a week we’ll be heading from Minneapolis to Quebec City! See you there!

This Saturday, in Winnnipeg is the Run For Rights. Yesterday I did a little practice run and will be sharp and ready for action!

Hello denizens of Las Vegas! People from your city keep emailing and asking if our show there on the 25th of this month has been cancelled. We’re not sure why this rumour is circulating, but as far as we know, we are playing a place called The Farm (5597 S. Rainbow BLVD. Las Vegas) on the 25th, and we are driving there intending to play and level that fucking place!!! Spread the word! Don’t make me spend another lonely night wandering around Circus Circus buying gag ketchup bottles.

How Inconvenient!

Will someone in Ottawa please punch that human slug Lowell Green in the nuts for me? If i hear one more Canadian whine about their commute home being delayed by people desperate to draw even a sliver of attention to a humanitarian catastrophe that we would all otherwise totally ignore, i’m going to projectile vomit in their face. no, make that explosive diarrhea. yes, still in their face.

Canadians are amongst the last people on earth who should be crying about “foreigners bringing their problems over here with them”. Forget for a moment that the protesters blocking the Gardiner Expresway have family and friends facing death back home and that we’d all do the exact same thing if we were in their position. Forget that. Does the name Afghanistan ring any bells to Canadians? You know, that place where Canadians are foreigners and continue to make life rather inconvenient for Afghans?

Don’t believe me? Why not ask a member of the Afghan Parliament, (who incidentally has about 150 less civilian constituents (including infants) to represent these days since NATO blew them all of the face of the earth last month)?

Oh well, I guess as long as patriotic morons wasting resources driving back and forth between their useless jobs and their meaningless lives in front of their stupid T.V.’s aren’t put out, that’s what’s really important!
