500 Missing Women

So today is the day that Robert Picton goes on trial for the murders of Sereena Abotsway, Mona Wilson, Andrea Joesbury, Marnie Frey, Georgina Papin and Brenda Wolfe, six of the twenty-six women found completely destroyed and buried at Picton's pig-farm in Port Coquitlam.

Seems like a good day to revisit and ponder the fact that while 500 aboriginal women have gone missing in Canada in the past 20 years, ain't no cops been dispatched to find out where they've gone. Draw your own conclusions.

On a related note, there's a National Film Board of Canada flick called "When World's Collide" that's worth checking out if you feel the need to confirm or deny your assumptions about what life as an aboriginal on the streets of Canadian prairie cities can be like.
