The art of Sam Smith

Just got an update sent in by Propagandhi tour manager Sam Smith. He didn’t have much to say, as he’s a man of few words. Instead, he prefers to speak through his art. So I present to you Sam’s tour update from Leeds, UK.

Tour update!

Hello, Freckles … At the moment we sit at a farm in England somewheres. We just finished a great night in Belfast. We played a show then took a cruise around the city. A really nice place, that one. We left Belfast and took a journey to the ancient stix of Ireland where we ventured forth into the cryptic tombs, which were made scarier by the misty night and howls from dead wraiths. Yahhhgh … The chills.

So’s I’m just reporting to ya’s all that the trip is going good. We haven’t faltered too much. The shows are great and the people are nice, gruesome, but nice. haha…

I am amazed at the amount of people who have travelled from all over to see the shows. We are very touched. heh. The most notable traveller is Ben, from France who has been at every show. And he’s not got a a! (webmaster note: Todd, what the hell is a a”?) That’s a trooper! Shit!

Tommorrow night we’re in Leeds! Should be rad. See ya there!!

To Fellow Queen City Dwellers and Others....

Hello, Everybody. I’d like to put up this little announcement today to honour my buddy John Henry Fineday, who I played in a band with in Regina, who was the first vegetarian friend I ever had, and who’s Dad got me to think about stuff like the Oka crisis when I was younger. This is very sad news for me. John was a great guy. I hadn’t seen him in about 6 or 7 years when He and his Dad came out and were thrashing in the pit at one of our Regina shows. I had no idea he was ill. Good reason to always keep up with all your friends, eh? You always think they’re out there doing their own thing and all is going great for them. Here is a little bit about John Henry. A unique guy who always tried to do good.Take care everybody.

Regina artist John Henry Fine Day has died after a five-year battle with leukemia. He was 32. The promising young artist, who was from the Sweetgrass First Nation, was known for his colourful painted carvings. He also carved the doors for a ceremonial teepee on the Regina campus of the First Nations University of Canada. He was very proud of the work he’d completed on the doors, Meagan Perreault, director of the Nouveau Gallery, said in an interview with CBC Radio. Perreault, who carried Fine Day’s work at the gallery, said the artist approached his work with enthusiasm and passion. What he was trying to do was that he was taking something that was no longer living and ⦠in terms with his carvings, the trees were no longer living and with his rawhide sculpture ⦠and turn them into something that was kind of living again, so they were all animals,” Perreault said. Continue Article Fine Day worked with acrylic paints on carved yellow cedar to create simple, iconic images, often of animals. He also sculpted with rawhide, steel and sinew, combining the traditional with contemporary materials. Born in Saskatchewan in 1974, he earned a bachelor of fine arts, specializing in sculpture, at First Nations University in Regina. Before he graduated he had a solo show at 5th Parallel Gallery in Regina and a second solo show in 2004 at Cumberland Gallery. He was a member of Sakewewak First Nations Artists’ Collective. A memorial is planned for Dec. 2 in Regina, followed by a retrospective of his work at the Nouveau Gallery. ‑Rod

What Lurks In The Futures Drawers?

Hello, Peoples Of Society.

We are only a few weeks away from our tour of Ireland, Scotland and England. We are really excited. We’re working hard honing our tunes a little bit sharper and preparing to thrash it up over there! The last time I saw, through the misty morning sky, the little islands just off the Irish coast, I could not believe mine eyez

There are big plans on the horizon here in Propagandhi land. We will announce them as soon as it comes together a little bit more! We also got some new tunes on the go which are really rocking! they’re not ready for the upcoming shows, though.

I’ve been meaning to mention this for what seems like years now. A long time ago a whole buch of people from Cagary sent us a poster with lots and lots of signatures asking us to go play there again. I responded but my letter came back to me. So’s I’d like to sayan extremely belated Thanks” to you’s for sending that and I hope we’ll see you soon!

So’s I’ll go now while I’m in my heightened state of optimism and joy. haha..

What goes up must come down.

Propagandhi Survives Perilous Journey!

Hello, Everyhoop!

We’re back in chilly Winnipeg after a great tour! Thanks to everyone for coming out and packing the shows right full! We played more good shows in a row than at any time in our existence, that’s for sure! Beave worked out great and played great right off the bat. He brought a good energy, as well as a questionable pair of shorts, to the shows! It was strange being around someone who isn’t a wierdo. haha… It was awesome to have so many people seem interested in our lyrics. It was also nice to see a lot of show goers were really nice and they were ready to rock! ha.

Our buddies, GFK, and the rest of the bands we played with rocked super hard making each show really enjoyable. The drives up to La Baie, Timmins, and From Sault St. Marie back to Winnipeg were unbeliveably nice. I cruised around old Montréal by myself in the rain writing my most emotional poetry on soft little napkins. I read the awesome book Starlight Tour” on the rides between cities. All in all it was a super great time.

We ended up winning that Socan contest thanks to you, beloved voters!! Thanks a lot! We appreciate you all flexing your fingers on your little keyboaords for us! We’ll be kicking back the cash we’re donating to Welcome Place and the Canada Haiti Action Network this week.

Manitoba hog farmers are crying that there is going to be a phosphorous ban around lake Winnipeg. How unfair!” they cry. Yeah like it’s fair to slaughter a bunch of innocent piggies and fill the lakes with putrescence. Eff Off.

Despite total inactivity and disinterest from voter punks everywhere the saintly and beloved democrats won by a landslide. How ever did they manage this feat without kids with mohawked-halfheads leading their campaign? hha… Eff Off! I expect and now demand the Untied States to become a great, free and just place like it was before George Bush. He ruined it all, you know. The democrats had nothing to do with any of it. Oh, wait aminnit…

And now let me go back to travelling my own icy desert like the Tuareg genius’, Tinariwen.

Next stop England, Scotland, Ireland!!!!!!!

Snowflake, Snowflake, you are so beautiful!

-Le Raud.

Tour update!

The tour is going great so far despite the fact that we broke down and sat a car repair shop for 5 hours and our van is still there 400 kilometers away. We pulled in to Quebec City tonight with just enough time to run on stage a play a quick but rocking set. We got to the show at about 10:00 pm and played at 10:20 or something. It turned out to be a really fun show! The Ottawa show was great as well. Both these shows were sold out. Thanks a lot to everyone for coming out. We’re having a great time. We’re looking forward to the rest of the shows!!!People keep giving Beaver little Beaver memorabilia. Hahaha …

Live from North Bay?

Hello, People! I’m tuning in here from North Bay, Ontario! All goes well so far. We were off to an early start at 5:00 am to head from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay where we were surprised to see that the people there still remembered who we were after not playing there for almost ten years give or take a month. Around 330 people and us thrashed the night away and had a good time. A good start. Beave played flawlessly. He’s a great addition. The people of Thunder Bay were really nice. Maybe we’ll get there again before 2016. Next stop Ottawa!
